In primary school, you will teach children in years one to four.
What’s involved
As a primary school teacher, you will teach children aged six to ten basic language, mathematical, and social sciences skills.
You will also lay foundations in art, music, and physical education.
It is also important to provide individualized support early to help each child develop healthy learning patterns. These young pupils usually require more personal attention in the first few years.
You will accompany and shape the children’s educational journey from the very beginning, and you will be responsible for laying the foundation for their future education.

Degree programme structure
In the primary school teacher education degree programme at the University of Cologne, you will study two subject areas and a third subject in equal proportions, first at Bachelor's level and then at Master's level. The scope of the educational sciences is comparable.

Hinweis Religion
Um sich nach dem Lehramtsstudium für den Vorbereitungsdienst in Evangelischer oder Katholischer Religionslehre bewerben zu können, müssen Sie zwingend der jeweiligen Konfession angehören und bei den zuständigen Stellen eine kirchliche Unterrichtserlaubnis beantragen.
Evangelische Religionslehre: Sie müssen vor dem Vorbereitungsdienst die Vokation (Vocatio) beantragen. Dazu müssen Sie evangelisch sein oder einer evangelischen Freikirche angehören.
Katholische Religionslehre: Sie müssen vor dem Vorbereitungsdienst die missio canonica (Missio) beantragen. Dazu müssen Sie katholisch sein und während des Studiums ein Mentorat absolviert haben.
Hinweis Sport
Für das Fach Sport müssen Sie während des gesamten Studiums sowohl an der Deutschen Sporthochschule Köln (DSHS) als auch der Universität zu Köln eingeschrieben bleiben.
Auch dann, wenn Sie alle Leistungen an einer von beiden Hochschule bereits abgeschlossen haben. Nur so kann die Uni Ihnen die Abschlussdokumente ausstellen.
